Maths at Sacred Heart
At Sacred Heart we use a maths scheme called White Rose Maths.
White Rose Maths is a pioneering educational initiative that emphasises a comprehensive understanding of mathematics. It's a pedagogical approach that has been embraced by both primary and secondary schools to enhance maths skills and problem-solving skills.
White Rose Maths takes the main learning objectives from the national curriculum and breaks them down into teaching blocks across each term. Time is built in for maths assessments and for recapping at the end of the term. The topics into which the curriculum is broken down are known as the White Rose small steps.
These small steps break down which learning objectives children need to master, and in what order, to gain a deep understanding of maths topics, and gradually develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills. There are small steps for each year group, sorted into blocks of weeks.
To see more details of the small steps in your child's year group, please go to the class pages.
